I have a ham friend here who was a radio operator on carriers in WW-II and
he says there wasn't any Teletype on any of the ships he served on.

There is a story by Walt Zenner (former V.P. of R&D at Teletype) about
building some Model 15 projector sets for use on carriers. They were
for the purpose of briefing the pilots, as they couldn't hear an oral
briefing because of all the noise. He mentions the problem of the
mass of the type basket on the M15 and how it would get slung around by
the ship rolling, so they had to put in a counterweight on the typing
units in the projectors that would balance the forces. That's why when
the Model 28 came out in the early 1950s the Navy got first dibs on all
that Teletype could produce. There was a demonstration fixture with a
Model 28 typing unit mounted in gimbals, to show that it would type
in any position.
