[Milsurplus] Now *this* is a really nifty idea...

At the auction place, item 390021468246 - a basic but well put-
together "learn to solder" kit with iron, solder, desolder wick,
desolder pump-gadget and a DVD that shows soldering basics. Some
folks might balk at the price, but look what you get in the package.

Yea, yea, most of us know how to solder, but I know a lot of folks -
even hams - that don't know or don't feel comfortable trying this very
basic skill. Looks like it would make a good class project for ham
clubs that still hold classes on tech-related subjects or for folks
that would like to build from schematics they see online or on mailing
lists but don't have an "elmer" to help them learn how to do basic
things like soldering. I wish I'd had such a kit back when I was ten
years old or so - you don't want to see any examples of my wiring
handiwork from that era.

It would be good for folks just getting into collecting vintage radios
and who would like to be able to be able to do their own repairs
rather than having to have someone else do it for them, but don't have
much in the way of basic repair skills.

Believe me, I've seen and repaired a lot of things where the person
who last tried to "fix" it had no clue how to solder two wires together.
