John,

I think the MC 124 cable is the one used in the ARN 7 radio compass (ADF) system. If so, there is a T box for MC 124 tuning cables that allows the use of dual control heads. The T box can possibly be used as a butt splice by just using two of the in line cable ports. Fair Radio used to have them and may still have a few.

Alternately you could just cut the ends off, peel back some of the spiral outer cover to expose a length of inner cable and use a crimp fitting to butt splice the two tuning shafts. I've done this to make a long MC 124 out of two short ones. The crimp fittings I used were made for splicing stainless steel trolling cable and were made out of brass. Never had any problem with the crimped splice. I used a short piece of copper tubing to cover it and used RTV to seal the ends over the spiral shield that encases the rotating cable.
