Hue,
GN-45s are a lot more common and go for a lot less $ than the Vehicle
frame (FM-41-A according to my book).
Initially, at least, there doesn't seem to have been a stand-alone
gasoline powered generator either to
charge a battery or run the PE-103 directly, one apparently had to
have a jeep or other vehicle available
to do that. The gasoline powered PE-162 MG set came along later,
probably coincident with the introduction
of the BC-1306 and provided both filament and HV voltages directly and
early PE-162s included output
connectors for both the older -284 and the newer radios (1306 and
subsequently the GRC-9). Fairly early-on
the connector and other -284 specific hardware was left off all newly
manufactured PE-162s and subsequent
change orders also directed the removal of the -284 components from
earlier MG sets.
A PE-162 can be readily modified back for use with the SCR-284 with
the addition of an internal relay and a made-up
adapter cord.
