That sounds like the meter scheme on the German Torn.E.b recevier, among others. Pushbutton switches meter to measure B+ from filament measuring.
If you lack the original meter, you may have to just put in meter that fits the cutout, maybe just a mA meter with dropping resistor to give you filament
reading.
