[Milsurplus] Aircraft use of freq meter

>From what I read about WW2 radio operation they were instructed to net the radios before starting their operation. I assume they would use their Command radio for inter plane operation and one plane in the formation would use the Liaison radio to report to their field or command.

Does anyone have any documentation on the actual radio procedure used during missions/
