This doesn't have to do with depot overhauls, but as the end of 1976 aporoached, i heard of NAS Sand Point, Seattle WA, getting rid of their last factory new Navy TCS. I saw one in the back of Navy MARS member Bill French's truck. It was in a large tall cardboard package on a  pallet, called a Gaylord - probly after the packaging manufacturer name. Bill, who worked at Boeing, told us he was going to convert the transmitter for TTY. I thought, that's a little unfortunate, but oh well. We at the surplus store had already sold a TCS set of two and here the Navy was, holding back a few sets since WW2. Now i recall Jimmy Horn also telling me he was on leave from Navy in some city like maybe SF when he saw in a surplus store an APX-6, which was still in use and still "classified" at the time.
Oh, to explain a little, end 1976 marked the official FCC ending of AM for nonham use on HF bands.
