I had a TBX-4 years ago, that i got from a fellow who had actually used it on the air - in VFO mode.
He seemed surprised when i asked how stable it was. "There was no problem".
I think the 837 is one of very few electron tubes where the suppressor grid actually has great control
over the cathode - plate current.
