I have a WJ-8712-1 for sale. This is the half rack remote control version of 
the 8711. The front panel has a phone jack, volume control, and a power 
switch. It looks great, clean, nothing bent, everything is physically 
correct. It needs a new roofing filter, firmware upgrade, and a front panel 
power switch. The power supply has been rebuilt. This radio is working, 
receives, but has distorted side bands because the roofing filter is 
damaged.

I am willing to sell it as is, working with issues, or I can finish the 
repairs and upgrade it to an 8712A.

Either way I need to move it. In order to control this radio you need a 
computer running Windows XP or Windows 7 32 bit, that has a free RS-232 
serial port, COM1 or COM2. I will provide everything required to connect the 
radio and the control software.

Here's the synopsis:

WJ-8712-1 sn 049. This radio is WJ-8712A firmware compatible. Firmware 
changes the radio from a locked version to one with all 66 IF bandwidths 
available. Firmware is changed as follows: Microprocessor U12 - 04.01.00, 
DSP U56 - 04.02.03. This change provides 66 IF bandwidths, noise blanker, 
AGC control, and enhanced voice response. The RS-232 cable connects to the 
rear panel on this model. The BBC build has a robust Telex headphone jack 
and Bourns volume control. The power switch is a red illuminated C&K rocker 
type the same as the 8711-1. The power supply has been rebuilt. A new RS-232 
cable and power cable will be provided. All features will be fully tested 
prior to shipment. Test data will be provided. A copy of the operating 
manual will be provided. Copies of control software will be provided. The 
lead time is 2 to 3 weeks ARO for the repairs and upgrades, 50% deposit 
required. This radio needs a new roofing filter and front panel power 
switch. The roofing filter is damaged. The power switch has a neon lamp that 
does not light. The firmware upgrade is optional. There are only 5 IF 
bandwidths available with the current firmware.

Items to be upgraded or replaced:
1) Firmware (sn 049 becomes a WJ-8712A)
2) Front panel power switch
3) 16 KHz Roofing filter

Options:
A) Radio as-is, working, bad roofing filter, power switch does not light, IF 
bandwidths locked to 5 total
B) Radio upgraded to 8712A, new roofing filter, new power switch, 8712A 
firmware, 66 IF bandwidths and all 8712A features

So you can buy this as a project and learn all about the 8712 or have me 
upgrade it to the latest functional level.
