Yes, I have tried the AF/Stereo deal:
I use a McIntosh C-41 preamplifier into a couple of
100 watt stereo Hitachi power amplifiers, on the MP
station at our company lab in Tampa. The home QTH has
an FT-1000d with a Marantz and Polk '400's.
Their stereo outputs drive two Polk c400 center channel
speakers (two big, black units each with two 6-1/2" drivers)
whose inputs can be bi-amped.
These two speakers were joined together at one end and
are supported over the operating position by eyelets and
nylon cord going through small pulleys in the ceiling so the speakers,
overhead, can be tilted downward slightly and aimed at the operator.
The FTMPMk-V radio is not an FT-1000d with a BPF. It has two antenna UHF
jacks, and the radios inside are pretty good operating in full
diversity, (meaning one can hear A-M shortwave using the Main Rx tuning
to the USB, and use the diversity antenna and Rx2 tuned to the LSB,
1.5KHz apart and catch the best of the best), but nothing
compares to a fully loaded FT-1000d with BPF and a box full of
Inrads, two antennas at 90-degrees and a stereo preamp/amp setup!

Has anyone successfully split the Mark V's output audio to drive two
separate speakers?....the rear panel "Ext Spkr" combines A & B....and
the "AF Out" is a fixed level output (front panel controls do not vary
the output)....
