Good evening all,
First...SCR-183 info:
Earlier this week I made contact with the Historian at the
Communications and Electronics Command (CECOM), Fort Monmouth, NJ.
Fort Monmouth was the development site for many of the Signal Corps
receivers and transmitters we enjoy on this list.
They have provided me with 300+ megabytes of SCR-183 documentation.
I will get all of this loaded onto my webpage to share, but it will take
some time at my pitiful DSL upload speeds. :(
As a teaser...here's a preview:
*** A 1932-dated SCR-AA-183 manual that describes a type BC-AA-180
transmitter and BC-AA-179 receiver.
*** A 1942-dated SCR-AC-183 manual that describes a BC-AB-200
transmitter with a BC-AB-199 receiver, which looks *exactly* like a Navy
RU receiver with the binding-post loop antenna connections instead of
the BC-xx-229 "banana plug" loop antenna connections or no loop antenna
connections at all!
*** A 1934-dated SCR-AB-183, SCR-AA-185, and SCR-AA-187 manual
describes a BC-AD-219 receiver and a BC-AD-200 transmitter.
*** Of course the usual BC-xx-229 and BC-xx-230 manuals are there too.
I was absolutely *floored* to be able to obtain all of this info.
Digesting it all will take some time!
Second...Navy GF transmitter and RU receiver question.
I'm convinced that the reason this information is around today is
because the Signal Corps R+D lab at Monmouth has morphed over the years
into the CECOM we know today.
Does anyone know at what installation the Navy developed / procured the
GF and RU series?
If we knew the installation...and it still exists today...we might have
some hope of doing the same for the GF and RU series.
thanks much and 73,
ben, kd5byb
