First off, I like your thinking.  Every step you mentioned is clear
and makes sense - even to me.  I think I might have gone a slightly
different path in a few cases but that's only because I'm thinking in
terms of a CW/SSB/AFSK transceiver instead of a multimode receiver.

Anyway, I have sitting behind me 4-1/2 watchmaker's lathes, a Taig
lathe that doubles as a horizontal mill, a Unimat that, for the
moment, is my vertical mill/drill press, a Clisby lathe and a Frei
precision (watchmakers/jeweler's) drill press.  With that, I have the
hand tools appropriate to the size implied by these machines.

Assume you had that shop, what changes would you make?
