I prefer gas welding/brazing although I have a micro arc & resistance
welder here as well.  (Computer power supplies are just sooo handy!)

Thus far, I haven't gotten myself into a situation where machining
would be needed for a ham rig but I can see a few places like
fabricated tuning drives where it could prove useful.  The Collins
"Let's see if we can add another gear train somewhere" approach
doesn't appeal to me even though I have the mechanical background and
training to repair things of that order as well as the engineering (ME
& EE, though no degrees) background to design them if need be.
