Hi Don,
I enjoyed reading your memories about your career. I am in the process of trying to set up my first RTTY station, and I want to do it with 1960's technology...all hollow state.
I work strange shifts (I was supposed to be off this week, but it seems that some of my officers got too drunk last night and were too hung over to work their shift, so I had to cover for them. I will probably have to work tomorrow as well, alas.
I was supposed to contact Jack WA2HWJ this week to talk about TTY units, but I have been crazy with the job (had three attempted break-ins...it gets cold, and folk try to break in to find somewhere warm to bed down for the night) and when I am not working, family and friends have been dropping in unexpected. Thus, I check my e-mail whenever I can steal a moment.
I believe in this day and age of breakneck changes in technology and society, that it is dreadfully important to document and keep alive the older technologies and histories. Thank you so much for relating your experiences...I have a lot to learn (and a TTY to find) about my new hobby.
Best and 73!
