Jon -- That's a darn good question! Frankly I don't know.....the
only reason I updated mine to V1.9 is I just always like to have the
latest....pretty sad huh? Even Mark Prather at Hal couldn't recall
the firmware upgrade details when I ordered the chip! Again, too
much time on my hands to think about this stuff.

Hyperterminal works just fine....I also talked to the box with my Mac
laptop and it's terminal program called "Z-Term". Both the ST-8000
and ST-8000A talk just fine at 9600 baud even with the simple three-
wire RS-232 connection without hardware handshaking (the manual
recommends hardware handshaking for baud rates above 1200 baud but it
works fine for me without on both the ST-8000 and ST-8000a). The
factory default remote data baud rate is already set at 9600 baud
[note: the factory default for the ST-8000 is 1200 baud]. The
settings I used for both terminal programs was:

Baud rate -- 9600 baud
Data bits -- 8 bits
Parity -- none
Stop bits -- 2
Flow control -- none

Hope this helps!
