I think I remember someone wanting an external modem for XP to do some serial port testing.  If the interest still holds, pse to QSL.  I have a ZOOM 56K external that works fine on most BIOS's.  IT uses a CONEXANT chip set which is compatible with most systems but not all.  This might be your lucky day :-) ...
