[GreenKeys] running non-Vista programs in Vista

Not sure if this will help with the various terminal programs listed, but
here's how I just dealt with a similar problem - I had to set up a VPN
connection for one of my endusers so that she could log into our network
from home. Her home computer runs Vista Home which, while it supports VPN,
does not allow logging in to an Active Directory domain (necessary to run
the specific program she needed). The answer was to run Microsoft Virtual PC
on her Vista box, then load the virtual machine with Windows XP Pro, and
finally load the VPN software and application client onto the XP machine.
Once in the virtual PC, she is running Windows XP and everything works as
intended. I've used the same strategy to run old applications inside a
Windows 2000 virtual machine on an XP box when XP drivers were not
available.
Both Microsoft and VMWare offer free "virtual machines" which can be
downloaded and installed to host anything from DOS to Linux on a suitable
host. Of course, if there are hardware constraints like serial ports that
can't run a low enough baud rate, this won't solve the problem but if the OS
is at issue, it might be worth a try.
