[GreenKeys] an idea

Hi,

As some of you may have noticed about me, I am an antiquarian. I constantly rail against what I perceive to be the gross vulnerability of our society due to computers than can be wiped out in a flash of the sun (so to speak). Of course, you may have also noted that I do most of my railing where, but on the internet of course.

So, what about putting my actions where my words are?

What would it take to put together a system, using 1950's to early 1970's tech, that would allow those of us with TTY machines to call into a central number(s) somewhere, and leave messages to be forwarded to others? Of course, since the land line telco systems have deteriorated in the name of progress to the point that DC loops are no longer available, we would have to use some sort of (gasp) modem, but possibly, we could use an AFSK generator to send the signals over the landlines. This way, we could actually communicate with each other without having to use the internet, computers or radios (many TTY enthusiasts are not amateur radio operators or do not have the land for a large antenna farm).

What do you think? I am already toying with the idea of relay logic controlled TDs and punches...

Any ideas?

Lets show the i-phone crowed that there are other ways in life to communicate besides using Chinese made doohickeys that will fail the first time that the sun sneezes in the wrong direction.

Best,

Joe
