Since there have been a number of comments about the Collins 709D-1 FS keyer, I wanted to mention that I am interested in locating and purchasing a Collins 709E-1 Frequency Shift Keyer. I have the Collins FRT-24 which I use almost daily on Amateur Radio HF RTTY but I am using a keyer that was not originally designed for use with the FRT-24.
If anyone has this keyer or knows of one, I would appreciate a message. Thanks and 73,
Russ - WA3FRP

Subject: [GreenKeys] Collins 709D-1 FSK keyerMessage-ID:
Anyone ever heard of a Collins 709D-1FSK keyer/exciter and /or have any info on it? We just got one in at the AWA Museum. I looked on the Internet and could not find any mention of it. (I did find mention of a Collins 709B-1, but it was about 10 times bigger and black wrinkle painted, so apparently a much older version.)Scratched into the crystal oven case was number in the 3200 range; so apparently the unit directly FSKs the crystal and then the unit drives the transmitter in place of a regular crystal or VFO.Picture enclosed. Any comments on this unit would be appreciated. Thanks & 73,Duncan Brown, K2OEQUSASA 31J30Antique Wireless Association Museum Asst. Curator, Commercial Equipment
