no. the serial port is a fully operating emulated on board (glass)
teleprinter.
You could even join our network without having a machine, but this has not
been
our intention to design the system....
The terminal (9600 8N1) is just a "replacement" for paper. ;-)
When connecting a real machine to the original TW39 port of the board it
is also possible to dial up to either the real machine or serial port
(emulated machine),
respectively.

In your case you can dial up to your Lo15 and send messages and texts
and vice versa. I use my serial port often to copy and paste TTY art from
the
internet and print it out and punch it on the teleprinter.
The TXP2/i-Telex system is a small Telex PABX system. You can connect
different machines to as many ports you like, just depending of how many
boards you use. You can dial up internally from machine to another
connected one
or dial out to connect other i-Telex members around the world by using a
prefix
number, e.g. 0
