[GreenKeys] Opinion of model 26

Pete,
The Model 26 was the first TTY that Hams were able to obtain in significant
quantities when RTTY “took off”. While the Model 12 was probably the first
TTY used by many of the pioneers of RTTY, the 26 was the workhorse for
many years. Keep in mind that the Model 15 was still in production in
those early years and was considered to be a “rich man’s” machine.
(Only the ultra-rich could get their hands on a 28).
My first TTY was a Model 26 (still have it). And, aside from some worn
felts in the function clutch, which I have since replaced (thanks to Larry), it still runs
to this day. It is important to get the table with the 26 since it has
the paper handling mechanism in the bottom.
My 26 has the fractions typewheel…I actually found a “communications”
type wheel a few years ago, but have not gotten around to putting
it in the 26.
If you can get a 26 that’s working, it’s worth grabbing.
73,
Jack K2TTY

I have an opportunity to get a 26. I know almost nothing about them
other then the usual stuff one finds on Google.
Are there things to look out for ?
The only one I can think off having never used one
is the fractions vs "standard" characters.
Serial number ranges to stay away from ?
Things to look for ?
Or just avoid all together ?
