[GreenKeys] [Greenkeys] The Austin Trip

I drove to Dallas once by myself, a good trip of 600 miles away at the time and was driving a 1982 Oldsmobile Delta-88. I picked up a full model 19 (table, printer, character position indicator, reperf, power supplies (2), & tape & paper). We spread a couple of layers of blanket across the back lip of the trunk, lifted the unit onto the lip, and gently let the whole unit tilt over until the printer housing stopped the movement. Worked fine. We tied my trunk lid down to keep it from bobbing. We put all the other "stuff" in the back seat. Then I drove back, leaving Dallas late and got back home as the sun started coming up again. I used the 19 for about 10 years before trading it off. The XYL was a bit unnerved by the episode but she recovered.

Years later I drove to Miami, almost a three day trip and repeated the carry with a fully blown model 28 ASR and boxes of supplies. This time I limited driving to about 12 - 14 hours and enjoyed a rest here and there at economy places like Red Roof Inn.

Moving this stuff is easy. You just gotta want to. Good luck guys.
