I have never been comfortable running anything needing HV DC directly off the mains, half wave, full wave, bridge, or multiplier, especially in older building with two prong outlets.  Was always taught it is inherently unsafe to do that and one zap thoroughly convinced me!  Good thing I ran across four isolation transformers long ago that took care of most of my needs... think they originally came from Fair.
