Last winter I could hear Brice & Lyle's beacons with my ears on an HF dipole
laying on the ground all rolled up. Lyle is 75 miles NNW and Brice is about
150 miles NE of me. I was using a Kenwood TS440 which we all know isn't a
good LF receiver. I also heard Ralph's CW, with my ears, one night and the
next early morning with the Kenwood but this was using the Ashlock Loop
tuned to Ralph's frequency.

        Mike Mideke used to be about 200 miles north of me and I swear he
could
tell when I turned on a signal generator in my shop!  A quiet location
will work wonders for reception.
