How about building a radio room out in the field??? Maybe make it all
underground??? A tunnel from the house to the radio room??? At least it
would make a very good storm shelter.

Subject: [Lowfer] Beacon outside...

It would be about three hundred feet from the shack to a reasonable antenna
location. I have this same problem with other antennas, which is why I have
only been on 2m since moving in. I used to live in what I thought was a big
house, about 1700 square feet on a 50x150 lot. All my co-ax runs were about
50'. My new house is about 5,000 square feet, it took my three longest
co-ax runs to get to the front of the garage where my 2m beam is bolted to
the front wall. It is more practical for me to put the whole beacon and
everything associated with it outside, besides I always thought self
contained autonomous equipment was pretty cool...
