Back in the mid-1980s when I and others out west were
doing some serious work on 1750 meters (160-190 KCs),
on some winter nights in the Nevada desert, I could listen to Russian
longwave broadcasters on the beverage antenna..
First couple of years, they made a good freq standard,
until they changed their channel spacing. Don't remember
exactly the change, but I remember the loud one I used to
calibrate at 180 KC moved to 181 or 182.
After that, the third harmonic of WWVB was my freq standard.
