Yes, 5, 6, 7 and 8 level paper tape are all compatible in
that sense. There were computer readers with adjustable guides
which could read all of them.
5 level - Baudot teletype
6 level - Teletypesetter, Flexowriter, post-1930 stock ticker
7 level - Burroughs computers
8 level - ASCII devices
